Icon Docking Station Update

May 14th, 2008

Here is an update from Levelstar concerning the Icon Docking Stations.

Docking station motherboards went to production late last week, about four
days behind schedule, and our contract manufacturer has told us that they
can’t now meet our original schedule. so, it is necessary that we delay the
initial shipping date. As we are honestly in the final stages of things, we
do not anticipate the delay to be of great length, likely no more than a
couple of weeks.

Those of you who have pre-ordered docking stations will be contacted when
your dock is ready to ship, and units will be sent out in the order requests
for them were received. Once shipping
commences, we anticipate that all ordered units will leave LevelStar’s
offices within a matter of days, so all of you who have ordered Icon docking
stations should receive them in the next few weeks.

We appreciate your patience and apologize for what is sure to be the final
delay.

Braille + Mobile Manager
Extended Warranties Now Available

As we conclude the end of the first year of your ownership of the Braille +, we have had many excellent positive responses as to how this product has benefited you in school, work and daily activities. We bring to your attention several new opportunities that you will want to consider now for your long term use and enjoyment of this product.

During the first year after the Braille + was sold to you, a one-year warranty against manufacturer defects and free downloads for all software updates was included at no additional charge. Many customers are now wanting to extend these agreements which are outlined and priced as follows. Attached you will find a summary order form for your use and convenience. The serial number of your unit is the controlling feature to extend these agreements. Please be certain to identify it when placing your order.

Braille + One-Year HMA (Hardware Maintenance Agreement)
Product Number: 1-07460-00 $125.00
The annual HMA protects you from unanticipated maintenance cost. Repairs are covered, including parts and labor, for 12 months beyond the first year limited warranty that was included with your initial purchase. The HMA must be purchased while the product is covered under the standard warranty. Batteries and other accessories are not covered by the HMA.

Braille + One-Year SMA (download)
Product Number: 1-07462-00 $75.00
The annual Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) gives Braille + owners unlimited software downloads for a period of one year. This gives you uninterrupted additional coverage beyond the standard first year updates you have received. It must be purchased while covered under the standard or existing SMA.

An SMA download will be available as soon as possible following your purchase, please allow 3-5 working days for the implementation.

Optional One SMA update on miniSD
Product Number: 1-07463-00 $50.00
After purchasing the one-year SMA above, you may prefer to install updates using a miniSD. This is available to you for an additional fee of $50.00 for each update supplied by miniSD. It must be purchased while covered under the standard or existing SMA.

Braille + One Time Software Update
Product Number: 1-07464-00 $200.00

You will only need to consider this if you do not extend your option to purchase the standard SMA and then want the updates later.

Please take a moment now to consider the benefits of continuing your maintenance agreements as you progress with future enhancements. IT IS IMPORTANT TO ACT NOW BEFORE THE END OF YOUR FIRST YEAR. Complete the order form attached or phone APH customer service. Be certain to have your Braille + serial number available when purchasing. If you have any questions please call customer service at 800-223-1839 or email us at cs@aph.org.

South Park Season 11 DVD to include XBox goodies

May 6th, 2008

< ![CDATA[

South Park Season 11It looks like some extra goodies are being included with the South Park Season 11 DVD set. Not only do you get great episodes such as “Cartman Sucks”, “More Crap” and the immortal “Imaginationland” story arc (I pray the season DVD includes the full commentary of the “Imaginationland” one), but the DVD also includes a 3-song download for the XBox version of the video game Rock Band.

This marketing move makes sense on a couple of levels. First, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are big gamers so they probably got some cool stuff that other gamers only wish they had access to. They even confess their hobby on one of their DVD mini-commentaries. Second, the season includes the episode “Guitar Queer-o”, which uses the predecessor game Guitar Hero as central to the plot.

Spaced DVD coming with All-Star commentary

May 6th, 2008

< ![CDATA[

Spaced DVDOur resident Spaced-nut Annie mentioned the upcoming region 1 DVD set back in March. If you haven’t seen the show, just the fact that it’s coming out is reason enough to go pick it up. It really is as good as everyone says. But if you have seen the show, it looks like this one will be worth checking out for you as well.

As I was going about my workday, a little blurb popped up on twitter from Diablo Cody that said, “SPACED (The ORIGINAL!) is coming out on DVD soon! (And a lucky bitch named Diablo Cody got to contribute commentary.)” That’s interesting enough, and you should check out her Twitter feed. It’s an entertaining read. Even better though, she goes on to add that we can also expect commentary from Bill Hader, Patton Oswalt, Quentin Tarentino, Matt Stone, and Kevin Smith. Sign me up for that.

A curious search later, Google sent me to spaced-out.org.uk, which confirms the commentary and goes into further detail about the extras included on the new set. They also have some fun quotes about the show from J.J. Abrams, Kevin Smith and Matt Stone.

I Spy: Seasons 1-3 - DVD review - VIDEO

I Spy DVDIf you’ve never seen the ’60s intrigue drama I Spy, and haven’t had the displeasure of having your brain cells infected by the abysmal big screen adaptation from a few years ago that starred Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson, you’re in for a treat: the entire series is now on DVD.

Oh, it was on DVD before, but there are two differences with this release. One, the entire series has been remastered, and two, the series is in order by season. The other releases featured individual DVDs that had random episodes on them. The entire series had been released (I think, anyway), but since they weren’t in season order, it was rather odd.

Luckily, the new sets take care of that error. And those aren’t the only two surprises on this set.

Feasting On Asphalt: The River Run - DVD Review

May 2nd, 2008

< ![CDATA[

Alton Brown is a unique commodity on Food Network. In an environment where most of the action is in front of the stove or above the cutting board, Brown’s Good Eats takes us beyond that. Sometimes it’s to the origins of the food or the recipe; other times it’s into the science of how all of the ingredients of a particular combination of foods work together. He does this with a bit of nerdiness, a bit of hipness, and a good amount of humor.

When he took his love for food on the road in the first Feasting on Asphalt it produced a very successful mini-series that showed the non-corporate side of America’s eateries. It also showed us some of the small cities and towns, and their personalities, that we don’t normally see off of the interstate at our Applebee’s booth.

Now, his second series of Asphalt is out on DVD. While not as fresh as the first series (and, what is the second time around?) it is still a fascinating look into the America that has been nearly forgotten as the corporations took over the country. You’ll want to savor this journey because, frankly, that’s about all there is in this 3-DVD set.

As fans know, a complete DVD set for the show was already released a few years ago, but it didn’t have any extras on it at all (and I remember that some of the first DVDs had a lot of problems with skipping and freezing, though I’ve never had a problem with my set). This set is rumored to have extras on it, and we can only hope that includes commentaries by the cast and Aaron Sorkin.

No word yet on who is putting it out or even why this set is getting the anniversary treatment (other than it’s a great show and deserves it!). Maybe the success of Felicity Huffman and Brenda Strong on Desperate Housewives helped.

Filed under: , , , , , Code of HonorTitle: Code of Honor
Original Air Date: October 12, 1987
Written by: Katharyn Powers and Michael Baron
Directed by: Russ Mayberry
Episode: S01E04
Stardate: 41235.25

Synopsis: The inhabitants of the Federation planet Styris IV had the fish for dinner, leading to an outbreak of deadly Anchilles fever. With Styris IV’s fate in the hands of Acting President Ted Striker and his intern Elaine, the Enterprise pays a visit to the only planet in the entire galaxy that can provide a vaccine, Ligon II.

Picard meets with the Ligonian leader Lutan and his little buddy Hagon when they beam up into the ship’s cargo bay. On the way to meet them, Troi and Riker tell Picard that the Ligonians are a proud people with a very structured society. Picard thanks them for waiting until they’re in the turbolift, going to the meeting to tell him this important information, instead of bogging down the pre-meeting briefing with it. When they get to the cargo bay, we discover that the Ligonians are also descended directly from a 1940s pulp novel set in deepest, darkest Africa, and that they are amused to discover that the Enterprise’s security chief is a woman.

Oh good! We’re going to be racist and sexist in this one!

Home GrownWhen I was younger, people I knew had various ways of smoking weed. One guy even made a bong out of an apple once. I didn’t know it at the time, but now I look back and he seems like the MacGyver of pot smokers. Though he’s not the only one who did such a thing, of course.

Case in point: the cover of the new Comedy Central Home Grown DVD. It’s a DVD that showcases various episodes of Comedy Central shows, including Chappelle’s Show, Reno 911, TV Funhouse, The Sarah Silverman Program, Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil, and Strangers with Candy. This is the cover
